Recap of Copenhagen

Hey fam - honestly the blogs been getting tiring but we shall carry on :)

Day 15 -

I woke up feeling absolutely terrible this morning. It was like I suddenly developed a really bad chest cold over night with a slight temp, headache, achy and nasty cough all in one. I woke up around 8am and decided to try to shake it off with a long day of adventuring - typical cogan move = when i feel sick I try to sweat it out.

I ended up walking about 12 miles around the city and saw:

  • Marmorkirken - The Marble Church (St.Fredricks Church)

  • Kastellet - Military Grounds

  • Marititme Monument

  • The Little Mermaid

  • Gefion Fountain

  • St.Albans Church

  • Hornmine

  • Amalienborg

    • Levetzau’s Palae

    • Molke’s Palae

    • Schack’s Palae

    • Brockdorff’s Palae

  • Nyhavn - the classic colorful boat canal street

  • Kongen Nytrov - The King’s New Square

  • King’s Gardeb

  • Rosenborg Castle

  • Rundetaarn - The Round Tower

Then I stopped for lunch at ARKET and got some mushroom & lentil soup. After that I decided my body ACTUALLY needed some rest so i headed back to the hostel (with a quick pit stop at the Tivoli Amusement Park first) for a nap because I really dont feel great :(

I napped for two hours then headed out to grab some dinner and ended up in the Meat Packing District at Tommi’s Burgers. Finally headed back home and accepted that I just needed to go to bed early and rest up. Hopefully I dont spread anything in my hostel room!!

Day 16-

Today I woke up feeling a little bit better and decided to head out to adventure and get the day started. In all honesty, I was really just still drained and completely fine with the idea of not really making any new friends while traveling in Copenhagen. I don’t know if other people feel this way but sometimes I feel like i need to recharge by being by myself and then once I am by myself Im like I know being around people makes me feel so alive. Its such a hard combo bc I definitely have those introverted tendencies but LOVE meeting new people and making new friends. So gotta find a ~ balance ~

I ended up walking to grab a coffee and had the weirdest thing happen. I looked up as I was crossing the street and made eye contact with this man and smiled (bc what else does an awkward cogan do). So continued on with my search for coffee and next thing you know i’m face to face with the same guy biking towards me. Im not going lie my first thought was “F***, he’s following me.” He then hopped off his bike and politely asked if he could ask me a question in Danish and I had to quick interfere and say “sorry! English”. (Also FYI saying that is the most embarrassing thing ever - America needs to make second languages mandatory from a young age. If i ever have kids they are learning a language asap rocky.) BUT back to the story - he then asks if I felt the same connection he did and i said well me made eye contact and thats the basic way human interactions begin. Im kinda being sassy and trying to get out of the convo. In the end I ended up getting coffee with this man (in a public setting where i was more comfortable) and had such a deep conversation - i wont deny it was mostly a random therapy session for the man. I feel like I know way too much about him considering I just met him but I felt like it was oddly needed on both ends. It made me reflect on a lot and reminded me that I am here for good reasons and so so proud of the growth im going through on the trip.

There have been moments where I have wondered if going on this trip was me running away from things and tossing great opportunities into the trash but I have never felt so authentically myself while being here. I am so at peace, calm and feel like the version of myself that I love. Im enjoying the small moments, not stressed about what my money can buy me and my future. I mean obviously im still a little stressed that I quit my job and will be coming back to the States jobless and most likely pretty broke but hey ill figure it out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Next up I headed to Reffen food market which was a 1.5 hour walk away from my hostel but hey Im only in copenhagen for so long so lets make the walk worth it. Got there and ordered some bbq pork kababs and a reffen lager. Then just hung out for a while :)

After Reffen, I decided it was time to make some friends so I posted in our hostel group chat and made plans to meet up with someone at 6pm at the hostel bar for a drink! As soon as we met up we both immediately made friends with the people next to us and and next thing you know Jäger shots are being poured lol Here I met

  • Mark - Welsh guy that works in Accountancy

  • Aston - From London and works for the embassy

  • Madeline - Australian traveling

  • Lawrence - From Tanzania, now living and working in Sweden. He used to be a tour guide for people hiking Kilimanjaro.

  • Nick - From Texas and traveling about

One shot turned into many and next thing you know we all joined into the salsa dancing class that was going on in our hostel. We all spent the rest of the night hanging out making so many fun little memories :)

I am definitely not going to be feeling great for my train tomorrow morning lol
